Re: Music & the Monarchy
Thanks a lot Yorkie for sharing the link – no doubt I would have missed this otherwise. King's College Choir sound really great on Byrd, and no complaints about the rest of it either. :D Now I definitely could be wrong about this, but are there at least two ex King's soloists (Once in Royal David's ...

Re: Other Choirs, Singers, Musicians that you like
The Haydn album is one of my favourite recordings too. I've since tried to acquiant myself with more of Haydn's work, but finding any decent recordings seems difficult after the standard set by New College. :D Continuing with the continental theme: [BBvideo 425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hl...

Re: Other Choirs, Singers, Musicians that you like
I'm beginning to think that perhaps there is something more going on here - possibly to do with a specific shade of red. The wiki article specifically mentions scarlet so perhaps there is normal, boring red for 'ordinary' choirs and a certain racy shade of red for the 'Queen's boys'. That might exp...

Re: Other Choirs, Singers, Musicians that you like
I've still not recovered from the shock. Today it's a female Alto but that is only one small step from tomorrow's all girl Libera!.. St Paul must be spinning in his grave......... Anyway, some videos from the choir of St Thomas Church, NYC. From their German tour last summer, I believe...

Ah, of course. Among all the wonderful soloists, for me he was really the star of the night. What a beautiful voice.

Re: UK Concert Guildford May 11 2013
Hi Karppoo! When did you arrive to the cathedral? I was trying to spot you, but without any success.
Anyway, does anyone remember or have written down who sang the duet in The Fountain with Matthew? I'm desperately trying to refresh my memory before writing a review.

Re: Other Choirs, Singers, Musicians that you like
Ah, did some digging and found out the name of the female alto singing at St Paul's whose presence in the choir left Yorkie forever traumatized. So I thought I would share this here. She is Caroline Trevor, a member of Tallis Scholars – so that's where she'd know Andrew Carwood from. And: Pete...

Re: Right Now
Ah, I guess all the status updates on Facebook are about that then rather than ice hockey which was my guess.maartendas wrote:(oh and congrats on making it to the Eurovision final too, hehe )
Well, at least I was remotely aware that the competition is being held around now.
Re: Right Now
Came back home late last night. It was a very nice trip – I'll try to write something about the concert later. During five days I attended two evensongs and a Sung Eucharist at St Paul's, an evensong (Lay Vicars) at Westminster Abbey, and a weekday mass at Westminster Cathedral. St Paul's was brilli...

Re: UK Concert Guildford May 11 2013
Anyone have a good estimate as to when the concert will end? Not including any after-concert pub visits. For some reason I just can't remember how long they have normally been. So typical, I need to wake up in 1,5 hours and I'm just starting to take a proper look into how I'm going to get to G...

Re: UK Concert Guildford May 11 2013
Well let's really hope that the forecast is wrong at this point. Or that there will be an opportunity to queue indoors like at St George's? Did anyone else notice this on the Guildford Cathedral event page? Pre-concert suppers are available at the Refectory, for information and booking...
Re: Right Now
I will be flying to London tomorrow morning – haven't started packing and haven't really planned how I'll spend my six days there. St Paul's music lists are finally out and it was a bit of a disappointment: the choir does not sing the evensong on Monday and on Tuesday there is a special se...
