Re: Name five musical pieces which you would like Robert
I don't see any problem with adapting hat for treble voices. I think that would be quite suitable for Libera.
Re: Name five musical pieces which you would like Robert
I think that would be interesting to hear these songs as songs from Libera:
1. You were there (this is for quite low voices, but...)
2. In Christ alone
3. Mary did you know?
or A cappella
4. The Golden City
Some of popular christian songs, for example, from Hillsong or Chris Tomlin, or Michael W. Smith. I think that most of these songs isn't in Libera style, but maybe it is to make these song in this style

When I was young "I sing a song of the saints of God" was a standard for children's church school and children's choir. I'd like to hear Libera sing it.

Yorkie, that is a gorgeous piece for Libera to sing. It would need a Prizeman "touch up" to fit their style though.
I just remembered this song today which I also think would be great to hear in Libera's voices (fade out the bagpipes and imagine Libera harmonies):
[BBvideo 425,350][/BBvideo]
The lyrics are also quite Libera-like, I think:
"THE PATH TO PEACE"
(composer Alex Knox)
It's time, time for peace,
Time for promise not for grief,
Our time has come so let it be,
For we have chosen-the Path to Peace.
As we sing our song of friendship;
Let the world see how we are.
Let them hear our voice of promise;
Let them hear it loud and far.
Can you hear it from a distance?
Can you hear our hopes and prayers?
Then it's time to join our voices,
Join to sing a song we share.
As we sing our song of friendship;
Let the world see how we are.
Let them hear our voice of promise;
Let them hear it loud and far.

Re: Name five musical pieces which you would like Robert
Sometimes I think I should believe in telepathy. A few days ago I heard a song by Enya for the first time and immediately I thought that it would fit Libera so well. So I was planning to ask a similar question in the German forum (and still do), and right now this older thread which I hadn't yet discovered, was "activated" again. So this is my answer:
I love Libera to sing their own songs. If they never sang anything else than songs composed by Robert Prizeman or a (former) Libera member, I would be completely satisfied. However, if there has to be an existing song which then can be arranged for Libera, this is the song I mentioned (at the moment I've got only one suggestion): Athair Ar Neamh.

That is beautiful, filiarheni! Thanks for bringing it to our attention. I can totally hear Libera sing this with an arrangement by Robert. I wonder what the lyrics are about.

There appear to be a number of translations from the Gaelic. Google has plenty of information:
Athair ar Neamh - Father in Heaven
Version 1:
Father in Heaven, God bless us
Father in Heaven, God bless me
My soul, my heart, my glory,
praise to you, God.
Long is the peaceful day
Long is the night without gloom
Delight, joy, love,
praise to you, God.
I glorify you day after day.
I glorify you night after night.
Father in Heaven, God bless us
Father in Heaven, God bless me
The moon, the sun, the wind,
praise to you, God.
Version 2
Father in Heaven, God help us.
Father in Heaven, God help me.
My soul, my heart, my voice
praise to you, oh God.
Long is the day, and peaceful,
long is the night without gloom,
happiness, joy, love,
praise to you, oh God.
I praise you from day to day.
I praise you night after night.
Father in Heaven, God help us.
Father in Heaven, God help me.
The moon, the sun, the wind,
praise be to you, oh God.

Re: Name five musical pieces which you would like Robert
Is there anyone in the choir other than Isaac who is familiar with Gaelic?

Tadhg took over the Gaelic part in Wexford Carol but given that none of them speak Latin (or any of the other languages that they sing in on tours) I don't think it would be an issue for them to sing it.TullyBascombe wrote:Is tone in the choir other than Isaac who is familiar with Gaelic?

Re: Name five musical pieces which you would like Robert
I was just listening to some music of Michael W. Smith, and remembered, that I had an idea, that as Libera have song with Pachelbel`s canon, so it could be nice, if they would have song with some melody from Micheals W. Smith too. I know his 2 instrumental albums - "Glory" and "Freedom". I think, that nice songs could be with "Carol ann" from "Freedom" and "Patriot", "The Blessing" from "Glory".
Main idea from me - what could be better than beautiful music from Michael W. Smith, great lyrics from... (I don't know where - Bible, some other lyrics (by RP?)) and heavenly performance by Libera!?

Gorgeous music. And I really, really like your idea.
After all, We (re)discovered recently that Libera had already collaborated with Twila Paris, another well known Christian singer in the US, on her 1998 CD Perennial. Plus, Michael W. Smith has already used youth choirs on at least four of his CDs so far. Maybe there could be a collaboration, and it could even generate some extra interest in these two instrumental CDs.
These arrangements already have that cinematic feel, and Libera has substantial experience with film soundtracks. The chord progressions in these allow for plenty of background vocals and soaring descants.
Anyway, good thinking, and I might have to consider getting one or both of these CDs just for nice listening. Thanks!

Re: Name five musical pieces which you would like Robert
'I Dreamed a Dream' from Les Miserables would be lovely, I imagine it'd have to be done as a solo though. Then again, I'm not the expert, the choirmaster is...
It's probably out of the scope of Libera the touring choir (and almost certainly not for the choir in the capacity of St Philip's Choir), but it would be real music to my ears if they did hymns like 'Eternal Father Strong to Save' and "The Day Thou Gavest".
I'm pretty sure it won't happen due to various reasons, but I would love the Monty Python parody of 'All Things Bright and Beautiful', titled 'All Things Dull and Ugly' set to Rutter's arrangement too. Libera used the latter arrangement twice, and then they went for the traditional one some years later.
Lastly, not a wish for new one but a hope that they'll resurrect something they've done before: "Love Lifts Us Up", covered on Thora Hird's programme.

Why not go all out for "The Galaxy Song"?rubberduckysquawk wrote: ↑<span title="Sun May 21, 2017 7:24 pm">7 years ago</span> I'm pretty sure it won't happen due to various reasons, but I would love the Monty Python parody of 'All Things Bright and Beautiful', titled 'All Things Dull and Ugly' set to Rutter's arrangement too. That`s exactly what came into my mind too when I heard this song for the first time. I generally think that songs by Enya are fitting to the Libera style quite well, as alredy shown by singing "Orinoco Flow"filiarheni wrote: ↑<span title="Sun Dec 18, 2016 12:23 am">7 years ago</span> I love Libera to sing their own songs. If I remember that right - you are also from Germany filiarheni, aren't you? Because another piece, which I thought of, was "Der Mond ist aufgegangen" (the moon has risen) by Matthias Claudius, one of the most beautiful German lullabies.
The boys already proved being able to sing in German, as they sang "Abendsegen" (Hansel and Gretel) in Vallendar last year.
Then there is a particular christmas carol I would love to hear sung by Libera, because I find it as powerful as "Carol of the bells" - Hark, the herald angels sing. I think they may have performed it together with other choirs in some kind of TV show but I'm not quite sure...
You'll probably all know Mr Bean Did you ever notice the song playing at the end of every episode? Ecce homo
I mean... it sounds so much like a serious classical peace, but the lyrics...just Mr Bean- like. Probably a little too meaningless to be performed by Libera
