Destiny - Music of the Spheres

Post by JimmyRiddle »

If this is what I think it is, Libera could be involved in the choral soundtrack behind one of next year's big video game releases;

Destiny - the creators of Halo®

07.25.13 DESTINY: MUSIC OF THE SPHERES
Mark Mckenzie is honored to have orchestrated and recorded a yet to be released 50 minute, Eight movement symphonic and choral suite entitled "Destiny: Music of the Spheres" for composers Martin O’Donnell, Michael Salvatori and Sir Paul McCartney. The music was recorded at the legendary Abbey Road Studios using a 106 piece orchestra, large choir and the famed London boys choir LIBERA with Sir Paul McCartney attending.

To that end, Bungie has already recorded 50 minutes of music with a 106-piece orchestra and a 40-voice choir at the legendary Abbey Road Studios in London

The Music - Not much to be said about this. Marty O’Donnell, the composer of the music from the Halo series will have the London Symphony Orchestra, a boys choir, and the Abbey Road Studios at his disposal. The music alone from the trailer was well done and will likely be a staple in creating the atmosphere of Destiny. Halo was rated one of the best VGM soundtracks of all time all thanks to Marty and it’s great to hear his music again. It will be reminiscent of Halo’s orchestral and choral score.

The score of Destiny was recorded at Abbey Road Studios with the 106-piece London Symphony Orchestra, accompanied by a boys’ choir

One to keep an eye on.....

Not yet FDL - from what I can gather the whole music suite was recorded February this year. I know the Game currently has a Q2(Spring 2014) rumoured release date, so I would guess the music might become available around the same period.

In Mark McKinsie's notes Libera is clearly identified as the boy's choir used.

Could this be the origin of the photo released earlier this year, depicting 4 boys in black hoodies clearly in a recording studio with headphones on????

Is that Abbey Road?

The official game is to be released on 09.09.2014 and it was expected the musical prequel would come out prior to this, but after Marty O'Donnell (composer) was unexpectedly relieved of his duties the waters have been made somewhat murkier. There's other bits and bobs around on youtube connected to the beta, and this is a good indication of were we currently stand.. http://kotaku.com/the-destiny-soundtrac ... 1607527909

I haven't been following this closely, so correct me if I've got the wrong video game, but around 2:10 in the video's soundtrack I hear Libera-ish vocalizations.

It seems we may have a preview of this music prior to the release of the game. The Libera part seems to be mostly after the 30 minute mark - it's very ethereal, atmospheric stuff.

Enjoy! :D

Yes they contribute with lots of ooh's and aaaah's throughout the score...from all what I've heard so far, this is the part were they contribute the most...

[BBvideo 425,350][/BBvideo]

Somebody blogged a screen cap from the end of game credits and I tweeted it a few days ago...

Image

They are also credited as contributing in Paul McCartney's theme song called 'Hope for the future'...

[BBvideo 425,350][/BBvideo]

...but as other's have commented I think they only appear at the very end to calm everybody down a bit....

The complete Destiny Soundtrack can now be purchased on iTunes....and at present also on Japan's amazon site (other outlets might become available after iTunes exclusivity expires)

It's also been posted on YouTube...

[BBvideo 425,350][/BBvideo]

... I've detected Libera;

01:10 (The Traveler)
07:07 (Excerpt from the Hope)
26:50 (The Journey Home)
34:50 (Tranquility)

...after that they are mixed in with the other mass choirs...

Please note these are just extracts from the in-game soundtrack and is not related to the orchestral suite 'Music of the Spheres'...the release of this composition has been thrown into doubt after Marty O'Donnell (composer) parted waves with Bungie (Game Developer) earlier this year...http://www.polygon.com/2014/4/16/561969 ... y-odonnell
