Songs of Praise

Post by Yorkie »

FDL has posted a Tweet to say that the second WWI SOP episode is due to be aired this Sunday. It is focusing on Christmas Eve when the soldiers from both sides stopped the fighting and came together to celebrate Christmas.

There is no word of Libera performing but we are hoping that perhaps they filmed 'I'm Dreaming of Home' whilst over in Belgium earlier this year. Fingers crossed.

Perhaps this might include the recent 'Victorian factory' video as well, whatever song that might be. I thought the first WWI episode was fantastic. The three songs were deftly woven into the narrative, and it allowed the human side of Libera to show through as well.

Hopefully someone (Jimmy Riddle?) will be able to post the video again.

It would be nice to have a video of Libera singing "I'm Dreaming of Home".

Hi Yorkie the program is listed for next Sunday 30th Nov - but I'm not sure this is the 'feature length' special on the Christmas truce because it doesn't fit with the media pack released by the BBC in August indicating a 35 minute special -
The second programme, War And Peace, features carols popular during the war; reflecting the carol singing on the Western Front during the historic truce of Christmas 1914. The truce is seen as a symbolic moment of compassion and humanity amidst the brutality of the war. The programme also includes poignant messages of peace and goodwill in remembrance of enemies who came together to sing, play football and socialise in no man’s land.
That doesn't mean to say 'Libera' might not be singing in next Sunday's program and alternatively no guarantee they will be included in the 'War and Peace - Christmas Truce' special but I'll certainly be keeping tabs on it - thanks to FDL for spotting the text.

So long as my data capture hardware remains reliable I should be able to post it.

No mention of Libera in the trailer for this week's SoP http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p02cwwjd - although it does seem to indicate a series of stories about the Christmas Truce?

Furthermore the Christmas media packs from the BBC don't reference Libera either, the religious programming detail a brief summary of Songs of Praise through advent and no mention of Christmas Truce or any Libera involvement.

All's not lost though, there is special program celebrating 60 years of Carols from Kings, and a hour long special on the inner workings of Canterbury Cathedral over 12 months. They'll be on my ticklist...

...not sure the rap remix of a favourite Christmas Carol on 7th Dec Songs of Praise will be high on my list of highlights... :|
