Today our queen Beatrix announced she will step down from the throne. Her son prince Willem Alexander will be crowned king on April 30.
33 years Beatrix was queen of the Netherlands. She was crowned weeks after my birth. So this will be the first time I will experience a new sovereign. A special feeling.

I saw Life of Pi today (awesome!) and noticed in the credits the name of the soloist who also sang the solo in composer Paul Mealor's Ubi caritas at Will & Kate's wedding: Thomas Fetherstonhaugh. Does this officially make me a choir geek? ^_^

By the way, to those of you unlucky enough not to be British ( ) you may be confused over how to pronounce the name Fetherstonhaugh

Any ideas?

Nope? Well it is of course said like Fanshaw!

I would never have guessed that. In my mind I always pronounced it as "feather-ston-haw".

Well, maybe just a little! Cholmondeley always makes me think of this comedy sketch:

I fear that the grammar and pronunciation rules (or lack of them) are far worse in British English than French FDL. But we don't have gender issues to worry about I suppose so that is a plus! Of course the Americans found it far too complicated and decided to simplify everything, although that whole 'Entree' thing in restaurants is most odd.......

Despite the fact I always thought that being Pope, like being a King or Queen was a job for life I wish Benedict well and health for his future.
Ah, and yes, 'our' boys. Sang like angels as usual despite not being able to see because of the sun in the stadium.

Congratulations to all Anglicans, especially the parish of St. Philip's in Norbury, on your new Archbishop Justin Welby. May he be a wise leader of the church and an inspiration to all people of good will, as Pope Francis would say :)
