Firstly, they might be a bit confusing if some of us like myself have actually been choir directors in real life, and don't "rank" at that level according to the system. Secondly, and most importantly, many of us are adults, and I think to adopt designations like that would be almost taking us back to where we started from with the old system, which I did find to be rather childish. If we decide to keep a ranking system, I'd suggest staying with the one we are currently using. If we are going to keep a ranking system, then I like the current rankings, i.e., silver, gold, but adding diamond or platinum would satisfy the more frequent posters, in keeping with the theme of precious metals. On the other hand, do we even need rankings? I think a count of postings is enough. I don't feel the need to be rewarded for posting. I enjoy reading and responding to the discussions, and don't feel that I need to be recognized for the frequency of posts to the forum.
I use the term Rank very loosely, and only because that is the mechanism the drives the system. I personally do not favour or consider a member with more posts over another with less, but I do like to think that a member is credited for the contributions made to the community, but that's just my opinion.

Reading back through some of the comments, the system is very unimportant anyway, so maybe we should just keep is basic or remove altogether.

Shall we start a poll on this and all vote?

Remove the rankings. They are not necessary.

I second! I think that acknowledging the contributions of long time participants is important. It is not a disparagement to do so or an insult to newbies. That's just my opinion anyhow.

Instead of having our administrators/moderators read through endless opinions in comment form, would it not be more efficient for all forum members to respond to a poll in tabular form, that is, some sort of quantifiable survey based on a question set by the administrator? Having people give their opinions in their comments runs the risk of becoming a debate that will go back and forth with no resolution, and result in too many posts for the administrator to dig through. Questions could take the following form, "Do you want a ranking system?" "Do you wish to abolish the ranking system?" If people vote to keep such a system, the "metal" rankings seem to meet the needs of the members for reasons which our adminstrator explained in a previous comment.

Yes, you did. Sorry if we got ahead of ourselves. Thanks for doing that.

I've been thinking over the User rating system. For now, I think we should stay with the current system. I have read back through the comments, and I don't think a poll is necessary to establish how we should go with this. I would say, more than 90% of the comments are in favor. Several members, including myself are for the precious mineral theme, it suits all ages. On suggestion, I have added two more ratings. at 2000 you will have the rating of Platinum member, at 3000 you will gain Diamond.
