Re: Ely Cathedral 29th April 2017

I don't want to go back the old days when it was necessary to queue outside the venue for many hours to get a good seat in the allocated area. From the seating plan posted by JimmyRiddle and also this page about an upcoming concert in July, it seems that only the cheapest seats are unreserved, so t...

Re: New album is called Hope

I look forward to more details. Like some others I hope it doesn't turn out too saccharine, although unusually for me I did rather like Santa Will Find You.

St John's College Choir, Cambridge

I figured they're so good they should have a thread all to themselves :) Another fine Ash Wednesday evensong live performance today on BBC Radio 3, kicking off with Allegri's Miserere, available to listen for a limited time here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08g56jx Interestingly unlike King's t...

I used their store yesterday. They accept Visa so if you just enter your card details at checkout, your card company will later bill you in dollars. They also take PayPal.

Three Wings - similar to Libera

Probably the most Libera-like music I've come across so far is David Lol Perry's Three Wings recordings with Winchester College Choir. It's different in many ways of course but the idea of mixing trebles with other sounds that aren't pipe organs is certainly in the same ball park. Previews and purch...

Re: Other Choirs, Singers, Musicians that you like

Not a choir that has featured much on here. Not sure what I make of the pieces that mix soprano & trebles... Jesus College Choir Just been listening to them. They have two choirs, the college choir with women sopranos and the chapel choir with boys. Normally they would perform separately howeve...

Re: Libera waitrose advert

A coincidence you should post this. Yesterday I was listening to 'How Can I Keep From Singing' on the Songbook album by the trebles of Tewkesbury Abbey. As a Libera noob there was me thinking "this would make a great Libera song" only to find it already was. Obviously I don't have enough o...

Re: Wiltener Sängerknaben - CD liner notes

Thanks for the correction. It's good to know about the Austrian connection. Incidentally, besides the Wiltener and Vienna boychoirs, does Austria have any other boychoirs? There is the St. Florianer Sängerknaben but I don't know anything about them other than they were founded in 1071, so certainly...

Les Petits Chanteurs à La Croix de Bois aka PCCB

Another French choir, this one a bit more Libera-like The cat duet they did on their Korea tour in 1996 has over 2 million views  The audience laughs at a few points and so do the boys: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjtVDG0drG0 Here is some more traditional stuff in much quality from their 2...

Les Petits Chanteurs de Nogent-sur-Marne - Les Moineaux du Val de Marne The boys choir of Nogent-sur-Marne also known as The Sparrows of the Val de Marne not to be confused with the Les Petits Chanteurs of other French places  I came across them on YouTube with a 15-year old recording of them ...

Re: Other Choirs, Singers, Musicians that you like

Here's another singer to keep an eye on. Only 9 when he recorded this last year. He was the youngest ever to get grade 8 in singing apparently, and he's a bit good on the piano too.

Re: "Walking In The Air"

No worries, sorry if I didn't quite get you. 8) Going back to he original question - what's the difference between a treble and a boy soprano. From one perspective they are the same - boys who can sing the high parts. Whether they get labelled as trebles or boy sopranos varies depending not just on ...

Re: "Walking In The Air"

I think we are in agreement that there is certainly a difference in style between opera and cathedral choirs. What I disagree with is putting boys in boxes and labelling them as "boy sopranos" or "trebles" as if the terms weren't interchangeable. Aksel for example was trai...
