Re: Concert St John’s Smith Square (2021)
Poor one. They should never be unforgiving nor even hard with themselves, as no-one else will be, and often the audience doesn't even notice. But of course, no-one wants to be the one to whom it happens.

Re: Musical pieces reinvented
The final impulse to open this thread actually came from the "Nearer My God to Thee" discussion in the SJSS 2021 concert thread. There, bachmahlerfan suggested this arrangement of the song by James Stevens that refreshes the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WyxXGdG3-Io In contrast to ...

Musical pieces reinvented
Even though it is so comprehensible that merely a change of the harmonies or of the tempo or whatever can result in a completely different character of a piece, this fact fascinates me again and again. A few years ago, during a concert of the Nidarosdomens Guttekor, I heard an instrumental organ pie...

Re: Concert St John’s Smith Square (2021)
Yeah, I knew they practise blindfolded and always wondered how that goes, so that's a very precious video. Thank you for posting it here! But the most impressive is that they manage to transfer that to different stage conditions at the various venues. Fascinating, isn't it?!

Re: Concert St John’s Smith Square (2021)
I actually agree with what you said. It makes it more dark I guess but it's such a slight and subtle change. To sound maybe more plainchant-like? I don't really think so, because in this case I guess that more than only one modification is being made. Did Robert ever change an original he took and ...

Re: Libera songs never sung live: Your wishes
Some years and albums later - time for an update here! With pleasure, I remove Vespera from the list and welcome (um ... ) some new songs on board, so this should be our new overview: A New Heaven A Song Of Enchantment Adoro Te Air (Air On The G String) Ave Virgo Benedictus Deus Home In Parad...

A chance for a more normal year of music? Ely taking bookings for the Libera concert, the Tölzer Knabenchor festival currently on their schedule... and then if you like the Poznan Boys' Choir you could see them here on the 18th June... https://windsbacher-knabenchor.de/konzerte/knabenchorfestival/ ...

Re: Concert St John’s Smith Square (2021)
Thanks to you all for your nice comments and thanks to everyone for your reviews; I'm now slowly reading them one by one. :D One melodic element was modified, seemingly a bagatelle, but it does affect the mood there: It's the change in the Gregorian chant intro from originally being a whole step to ...

Re: Concert St John’s Smith Square (2021)
This review is an experiment, as due to not yet having written an "if" album review, I'll combine them regarding the songs that appeared both on the album and in concert, as this way it's easier to include some general remarks on the songs themselves. Let's see if it works. I will keep the...

Re: Libera interviews collection
So here’s a short indication of the content (the interview itself was very short): No transcription but an executive summary? Thank you! :D :D Yup, the usual overview over the contents. Meant as a quick orientation help in the djungle of interview audios. (Transcripts are way more w...

Re: Libera interviews collection
I posted the link in another thread already, but I think it also belongs here. So, enjoy the radio interview with Big Daniel and Joseph, which was broadcast on Scala Radio on 22nd December 2021. [...] Now, I'm thinking about a transcription. Previously, it was really helpful to have one, especially...

And another beautiful Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols by Saint Thomas Choir of Men and Boys, New York, as of 19.12.2021. New to me and lovely: All this night shrill chanticleer (Richard Dirksen) No Small Wonder (Paul Edwards) Ave Maris Stella (Matthew Martin) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nDCK...

Re: Christmas Carols
The Windsbacher concert posted above by Luckdragon is a very beautiful one with wonderful music and a great sound. A special surprise for me was the fascinating rendition of "Es ist ein Ros' entsprungen"! :o That's a song sung and played absolutely always here, in each service and each con...

I know some of you have attended Christmas concerts or Services, and some have shared videos on social medias. [...] I hope it could be a useful topic every year in December, sorry if it is something that already exists, I could not find it. It does exist ... there you go.  Last Sun...
