Re: Other Choirs, Singers, Musicians that you like

You're right. Ronan Parke is very talented, and this particular video --- which now has to be viewed directly on Youtube's own website --- delivers a powerful anti-bullying message. Let's hope that it will be widely circulated.

Re: Kavana Crossley solo performer

I've also pledged a donation to Kavana. His fundraising pitch on Kickstarter is delightful. After his years of participation in Libera, I hope that Libera fans will help him get launched on this new phase of his musical life. He is an impressive young man who deserves our support.

Re: USA summer 2014

Thanks for the confirmation. It is great to see this new energy being put into fund-raising for Libera. Perhaps Libera fans in other countries will be inspired to organise similar fund-raising efforts to supplement what is being done in the UK and USA.

Re: USA summer 2014

In the lead-up to Libera's Washington concert in August, I have been interested to see the creative new online marketing launched by the website libera.org , which solicits funds for "Libera in the United States" and lists the event organizer as John Rexroad. Mr Rexroad is listed on the ww...

In praise of Libera's non-soloists

While Libera fans' attention naturally tends to focus on the choir's soloists --- all of whom certainly deserve great praise for their brilliant performances --- I think that the choir's non-soloists sometimes are a bit overlooked by fans. Two examples come to mind when I look at Libera's roster for...

Re: Other Choirs, Singers, Musicians that you like

Among the various great videos produced by the King's College Cambridge Choir, I highly recommend the choir's ongoing series of short interviews with their choirboys under the title, "Meet the Choristers": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSqDjpDNPbs&index=9&list=PL2LnIk0_D3cZt3Dqtx...

Libera's ethnic diversity

Although our focus on Libera is first and foremost because of its music, it is also interesting to look at Libera from a sociological perspective. For example, Libera is a mirror of the ethnic diversity of London. During his remarks at the concert in Armagh, one of the Libera boys referred to the fa...

Re: The Moon Represents My Heart (Chinese song)

Now that eleven months have passed since Libera's April 2013 Taiwan tour, I was wondering whether there have been any new developments regarding videos of Libera's impressive rendition of the Chinese song "The Moon Represents My Heart". I recall that this song has some complicated copyrigh...

Re: The Joy of Libera's Descants

I have enjoyed everyone's comments in the preceding exchange of views on Libera's glorious descants. While people have different perspectives about individual singers, what unites us as Libera fans is an appreciation of all the boys, their wonderful dedication, and their evolution as singers under t...

The Joy of Libera's Descants

One of the most charming aspects of boys' choirs in general, and Libera in particular, is the use of descants, defined by one commentator as "the counter-melodies that are sung at a higher pitch than the main melody". I am not a musical expert, but to me it seems that there are at least tw...

Re: Libera Dreams Competition 2013 - 2014 Results!

Congratulations to the winners, whose in-depth of knowledge of Libera is truly impressive! Congratulations also to those who organised this interesting contest. I'm already looking forward to next year's event!

Re: Your Top 3 Choirs

I find it difficult to respond to the challenge of naming my top 3 choirs after Libera, as there are so many good choirs in the world. Focusing on boychoirs, the UK and continental Europe (particularly Germany) have some outstanding groups. For example, I was able to attend an impressive concert giv...

I recently came across the website of Professor Martin Ashley (Edge Hill University, UK), who has done some very interesting research into boys' choirs in general and voice changes in particular. His website is: http://www.martin-ashley.com

Re: Unsung Heroes

I like this theme of "Unsung Heroes" because there are so many people who work behind the scenes to support Libera and who deserve wider recognition. For example, there are the people who coordinate all the administrative and logistical details of Libera's tours --- negotiating the details...

Hi Paul, Thanks for your message, and thanks also for the NASA video. I'm delighted to learn that we share this unusual combination of interests. In my twitter account ( @SpacerockDodger) I recently noted in a tweet to my little band of "followers" that they consisted of two quite distinct...
