Re: Cormac Thompson

Thanks Celtic, very grateful for this. You might have noticed an empty seat in the second row in which I should have been sitting. Senior moments of forgetfulness are becoming senior hours or even senior days.

Re: Opera

I despise Puccini's operas That's a bit harsh. I came to like opera quite late in life - but despised it all in my youth. In recent years (ie the last 20 or so) these are what I remember seeing (keeping programs helps). Britten Turn of the Screw. Glyndebourne +tour x 6; Regents Park x2; Vienna Art ...

Re: Escolanía de Montserrat

That PA concert is sooooo tempting :? But I just can't fit it into my schedule. :( If the concert was on a weekend I could make it work, but midweek makes it out of the question. It's worth going, if only for the encore - Bernat Vivancos' "Ave Maria". One of the best I have ever heard; a ...

Re: Schola Cantorum Upcoming Performances

I have heard Mahler over the years here and there. But besides his Symphony no. 5, I'm not really familiar with his works at all. So, I am not overly disappointed to miss this. On the other hand, I do often feel I should push myself into new works! Next time... 8) Start with his first Symphony. It'...

Time well spent!
Thanks for the comprehensive review. Makes me wish even more that I could have been there, but at the same time helps me to imagine that I was.

Re: Concert in Ely Cathedral, May 2022

Some scattered and somewhat belated reflections on the Ely concert: Come My Way – based on the lovely George Herbert poem famously set by Vaughan Williams, but I think there was a second poem in there too; there seemed to be some extra lyrics between each verse of the Herbert, but I can't remember ...

DW has an amazing voice, oodles of confidence, humour in his delivery of speeches, leadership qualities and a varied repertory (counting outside Libera: opera, film soundtrack, soprano/alto arias)

Re: Schola Cantorum Upcoming Performances

In my opinion they're the best at what they do now that Westminster Cathedral choir has been dismembered by the powers that be. What happened to the Westminster Cathedral choir? I attended a Mass in 2014 during my only ( for now ) trip to England and the choir was amazing! I'm sad to hear that thin...
