I guess nothing I say will make you in to a lover of Black Dyke Tully.
In my practice I have never discriminated against race or gender. I'd need to hear some first.

Re: Your least favorite Libera song is?

Yes, yes I can say it's inappropriate. Try listening to the piece played by the orchestra it was originally written for, the New York Philharmonic: https://youtu.be/BtO1HexmKJ4 The brass is marvelous for the fanfare and for the bold statements made at various points, but brass can't effectively rend...

But a brass band is a poor instrument to play a piece such as Dvorak's New World Symphony.
 If you say so!
Hmmmm........ How about "Billy Elliot" performed by a mariachi band?

Re: Libera to tour USA

Evidently "projecting thoughts", or whatever Oliver's doing, has been popular since the days of Mini-Ben and another Oliver (Cole).
Let's hope not projecting thoughts. Maybe trying to concentrate on remembering lines or having a headache?

Re: Your least favorite Libera song is?

Eh, can't say that would be my favorite version. The tempo is too rushed and it sounds like it was played by a marching band - too much brass and not enough strings and woodwinds. This summer I had the great good luck to hear it performed by the New York Philharmonic Orchestra at one of their Conce...

Re: Your least favorite Libera song is?

Here's another version (and use) of the melody. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgjLJSuGPt8 Hovis! I remember that add because they ran it throughout the 70's - Their Millenium and Farmer's son adds are great too. Try this version https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Mq59ykPnAE Eh, can't say that would...

Re: Your least favorite Libera song is?

I don't think of the musical passage in Dvorak's 9th symphony which became the melody of the song as being "Going Home". It was simply a repeating phrase in the 2nd movement. You should hear Paul Robeson's version. https://youtu.be/M9smSP1dq-A

OK, so they sang "From a Distance" for New Years. Did they not sing anything for Christmas Eve?

I'm glad they were allowed to sing a song of their own as an independent group.

Re: Libera at Songs of Praise 'Big Sing' 2017

The lyrics of O Stor Gud were translated into English at two different times by two different men: E. Gustav Johnson and Stuart Hines. The translations are significantly different, the more popular of the two is Stuart Hines, it's the one made popular by Billy Graham's Crusade and The Carter family....

Re: Libera at Songs of Praise 'Big Sing' 2017

I think 'How Great Thou Art' could be a possibility for the non-christmas programme. It's right up there as one of the nation's favourite hymns and Libera are very well practiced with this one from their recent tour and concert setlist. Alex G soloist maybe? I have always thought of "How Great Thou...

I would like to attend a concert some day. I suppose I could retire. Well, no, I have no idea what I would do with myself. Hmmmm. Like I said I would like to attend one of their concerts one day.

Re: Libera at Songs of Praise 'Big Sing' 2017

I think the song will have to be both religious and Christmas themed so they may not sing anything from Hope . We also have to be prepared for the possibility that they may sing in an ensemble that includes several choirs. I don't know that it has to be specifically a traditional Anglican hymn. I th...
