Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Ah, right. It looks like a very limited view for most. The whole area seems small on the map. I remember that in order to visit to washroom, I had to walk past a blue gate and onto a space on the right, where there was a door leading out to the washroom. Do you know if that would be the North Transe...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Oh, I missed seeing both of your favourites! I definitely will the next time. I've seen different versions of Oliver, but he seems simply dressed most of the time; King's outfit looks a bit more "aristocratic"? You wear the top hat even today? Classy. I was worried of a stamp...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Thank you for enjoying it! Do you have a favourite choice as well? Right, the capes and top hats are totally out-of-this-world. Very chic. Did all Brits dress like that in the past? 8) I walked past St John's (and I remember it was mentioned in this forum), but their evensong was a little late...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

We'll wait patiently - as long as it's a good read  Lol, then I better not make everyone wait too long. Here we go: http://whitelibera.wordpress.com/2013/06/17/choral-report-concerts-and-evensongs-2013/ I'm no expert on choral technicalities and specifics, so this is really an amateur's repor...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Apologies for the delay so far. I've finished the write-up on Westminster Abbey Choir, but I thought I'd post everything together. Need just a few days more.

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Hi there Yorkie, I haven't forgotten, and I certainly owe the good folks here a complete review for all the advice rendered. :D I'll get down to it within a week. Suffering from a bad jet lag now. For a start, the choirs I visited are Westminster Abbey Choir, King's College Choir, St Paul's C...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Thank you, Maartendas and TullyBascombe! I was a little disappointed at first because it I thought "Sung Eucharist" meant that there wasn't going to be singing by King's College Choir, but rather, those attending had to sing. :o So thanks for the clarification. Thanks also for the informat...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Hi again, I just realised that King's College Choir's schedule for the date I planned is as follows: SUNG EUCHARIST sung by the choristers Kyrie, Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei Messe basse - Fauré Introit - Consider, O Lord Alleluia - God reigneth over the heathen Offertory - A Song of Peace; Stanfo...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Thanks for the links, Yorkie and Maartendas. It's a beautiful place with great singing. I'm still longing for my first Libera concert in a cathedral. Yorkie, thanks for your information on Abbey and all the other choirs. You're a great help to newbies like myself! :) Maartendas, thanks for you...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

I'd actually say the opposite: trebles do not the sing at the same volume as the lower voices, and it is also more difficult to maintain clear diction (consonants drown between the wovels, while wovels start all sounding the same) when singing higher notes. But of course trebles and countertenors s...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Well, you know, take any piece of music and add several seconds of heavy reverb. It's fine when the full choir is singing, but any duets for instance become very easily all messed up to the listener. Also, don't expect to make out any of the words in the psalms unless you know them or fol...

Re: The Best Treble Choir in London

Evensong at St Paul's is certainly worth going to – the last time I went to London I did not even consider Westminster Abbey (based on their recent recordings) and instead went to St Paul's every night. But that of course comes down to personal taste. As to the acoustics at St Paul's, the...
